What's Coming in PacketFence v10

Preview of PacketFence v10 featuring anomaly detection, integrated PKI, GUI improvements, and enhanced accounting capabilities.

PacketFence v10 is scheduled for April 2020 and includes several significant enhancements to the network access control platform.

Major Features

Anomaly Detection

Version 10 integrates the Fingerbank project to enable automatic detection of unusual network behavior from IoT and medical devices. Key capabilities include:

  • Detection of abnormal activity patterns
  • Integration with the Security Events module
  • Ability to quarantine devices exhibiting suspicious behavior
  • Enhanced protection for IoT and medical device networks

Integrated PKI

A built-in public key infrastructure solution will:

  • Streamline certificate administration
  • Simplify EAP-TLS authentication deployments
  • Reduce complexity for organizations implementing certificate-based authentication

GUI Improvements

The graphical interface receives significant enhancements:

  • Visual editor for creating filtering rules
  • Support for RADIUS, HTTP, DNS, DHCP, and WMI protocols
  • Ability to simulate expression evaluations
  • Configure switch templates directly from the GUI

Accounting Enhancements

PacketFence v10 gains improved capabilities for:

  • Processing large volumes of RADIUS accounting data
  • Handling Netflow data for network visibility
  • Improved bandwidth accounting
  • Enhanced scalability for network behavior analysis
