Preview of PacketFence v8 featuring Fingerbank v2, multi-tenancy, new API framework, and mobile device management integrations.

We’re excited to share what’s coming in PacketFence v8, anticipated for release in April 2018. This version brings substantial enhancements to the network access control platform.

Major Features

Fingerbank v2 with Behavior Analysis

Version 8 will incorporate Fingerbank v2, bringing behavior analysis support for device profiling and fingerprinting. This enables:

  • More accurate device identification
  • Detection of unusual device behavior
  • Enhanced profiling for IoT and BYOD environments

Multi-Tenancy Support

Multi-tenancy functionality will enable service providers to manage multiple customers within a single PacketFence deployment. This is ideal for:

  • Managed service providers (MSPs)
  • Large enterprises with multiple business units
  • Hosting providers offering NAC services

New API Framework

A reimagined API framework will facilitate third-party integrations across all PacketFence features. The new API provides:

Golang-Based Services

Key services are being rewritten in Golang for enhanced scalability:

  • DNS services
  • DHCP services
  • ipset management

Brand New Dashboard

The administrative interface will feature a completely redesigned dashboard with:

  • Modern, responsive design

Mobile Device Management Integration

PacketFence v8 will support integration with:

  • VMware AirWatch
  • Microsoft Intune

These integrations enable comprehensive management of mobile devices in enterprise environments.
